Lockton, the world’s largest privately owned insurance broker is looking to recruit an exceptional Broker within its highly successful Risk Solutions P&C division who will be responsible for:


To provide programme design, placement, marketing and consultancy services for Lockton clients in line with agreed account strategies and in accordance with Lockton operating procedures.

The role will include developing business strategy in the African continent. 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Manages market relationships at both an operational and strategic level.
  • Work with Lockton offices and partners in the African continent in order expand our current insurance offering.
  • Advises clients on the suitability of particular insurance schemes and places insurance on behalf of client.
  • Discusses buying and or selling requirements of client and gives advice accordingly.
  • Analyses information concerning market trends, for insurance assets and advises client and employer on the suitability of a particular insurance.
  • Understands the clients risk profile, business needs and exposures to provide advice on coverage, programme pricing and retention strategy.
  • Arranges for the production of RFP’s on behalf of the client.
  • Preparation and issuance of appropriate coverage documentation, including wordings and placement slips within agreed contract certainty deadlines.
  • Assist with the resolution of service issues with insurers and other third party providers.
  • Undertake technical reviews (where identified) of insurance programmes for clients, making recommendations for change, where deemed relevant.
  • Undertake appropriate benchmarking for clients on their programme limits, coverage and deductibles as required.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of cover written by the major insurers and communicate to appropriate Associates.
  • Keep abreast of insurance market developments and communicate to those Associates as deemed appropriate.
  • Constantly monitor the market in order to consider the most appropriate placement strategy for Lockton.
  • Provide support in drafting reports/presentations/bulletins for use both internally and externally.

Candidate Profile



  • Fluent African (Amharic) Speaker, to be able to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing with clients and markets in Africa. 
  • Able to Establish competence in working in both African and London Insurance Markets, including Lloyd’s of London.
  • Knowledge and experience of the African insurance market, with deep cultural understanding.
  • Educated to degree level or above (Business & Economics would be desirable).
  • Educated to CII level or above
  • Establish Market relations with key Insurers.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for business development.
  • An understanding of insurer products and specialisms.
  • Ability to broke and service the insurance needs of clients.
  • Ability to prepare a broking presentation (including MRC slips) that accurately reflects the cover required and meets the clients' demands and needs.
  • Ability to compile, analyse and interpret financial information and data to facilitate decision-making.
  • Understanding of a client’s business issues, insurance needs and expectations.
  • Ability to manage time, prioritise and ensure that deadlines are met without compromising quality.
  • Proven problem solving skills, including the ability to resolve unusual and complex issues and then devise actionable solutions.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft products with particularly experience and competency in Excel.


  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Presentation skills in both preparation and execution.
  • Ability to design and customise both products and schemes based on the clients’ needs
  • Drive to nurture and build long term relationships with clients
  • A proven desire to further knowledge through seminars, courses and further education.
