Commercial Counsel (UK & Europe)

Description

Our Legal Team is seeking an experienced legal professional to join our in-house function, providing high-quality, proactive support across the business.

In this role, you will work closely with key stakeholders to advise on a broad range of commercial legal matters. These include, but are not limited to, insurance agreements, commercial contracts, supply agreements, intellectual property, artificial intelligence, data privacy, non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), Terms of Business Agreements (TOBAs), client service agreements, and general business law.

You will be responsible for staying up to date with relevant legal and regulatory developments, ensuring the business is appropriately advised on changes in legislation and best practice. You will also play a key role in delivering legal training to business teams to promote awareness and compliance.

As an active member of the Legal Team, you will identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the ongoing development of efficient legal operations.

The role also involves regular reporting on key areas of responsibility, ensuring transparency and alignment with business objectives.

Candidate Profile

You should have excellent interpersonal and influencing skills along with the following experience and knowledge:

  • Wide general commercial contracts knowledge
  • AI and machine learning acumen / interest 
  • Privacy Law and Privacy Contracts knowledge
  • Instinctive commercial awareness and proven technical ability
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Strong drafting skills
  • The ability to identify and resolve legal risks
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility and willingness to be involved in all areas of law
  • Approx. 1 – 4 years’ post-qualified experience gained in
    private practice and/or in-house in a commercial legal team,
    covering a wide range of general commercial and contract
    law matters.
  • Excellent academic record

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Insurance law knowledge
    Insurance industry experience whether gained inhouse
    or in private practice
  • Experience in IP, Trade Marks, Data Protection and policy
    development
  • Experience of the insurance industry/London Market and/or
    policy wording drafting
  • Experience of Data Privacy/Data Protection matters/UK & EU
    GDPR
  • International or cross-border experience
