Description

  • Manage claims from first notification to final settlement, liaising effectively with clients, insurers, loss adjusters, and other relevant parties.
  • Provide clear and accurate advice on policy coverage, claims strategy, and the documentation required to progress claims efficiently.
  • Negotiate with insurers to achieve the most favourable and cost-effective outcomes for clients.
  • Agree and monitor claims reserves, ensuring they are realistic, accurate, and regularly reviewed.
  • Ensure key and major claims are escalated appropriately, recorded on the Key Claims Register, and managed in line with Lockton standards.
  • Understand and apply the correct claims notification, investigation, and settlement procedures across relevant classes of insurance.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date claims records on internal systems, including diary management for outstanding actions.
  • Attend internal and external meetings as required, contributing professional insight and claims updates.
  • Report major or sensitive claims to the responsible Account Executive in a timely manner.#
  • Understand client insurance programmes, service plans, and any bespoke claims handling arrangements, documenting these clearly for internal use.
  • Undertake specific tasks and projects as directed by management, ensuring agreed timescales are met.

Candidate Profile

Experience & Technical Knowledge

  • Min 2 years’ experience in a claims handling role, ideally with a strong focus on Motor Claims.
  • An understanding of the key classes of insurance relevant to the role.
  • Working knowledge of insurance policy coverage, claims processes, and reserving principles.
  • Understanding of general legal principles relating to insurance and claims handling.
  • Ability to prepare, interpret, and analyse claims data, including claims trends, triangulations, deductibles, and cover variations.

About The Position

The Lockton Belfast team draws on decades of insurance services experience, combining deep technical expertise with innovative, tailored solutions for clients ranging from local businesses to major global organisations.

 

We are now seeking a Claims Technician to join our established and growing Claims team. This role is ideal for someone with 2–3 years’ experience in claims handling, ideally with a strong grounding in Motor Claims, who is looking to further develop their technical capability within a professional, client-focused environment.

About the Role

 

As a Claims Technician, you will be responsible for managing claims to conclusion across an allocated portfolio of clients, ensuring a high-quality service is delivered at every stage of the claims process.

You will act as a key point of contact for clients, insurers, loss adjusters, and legal representatives, providing expert guidance on coverage, claims strategy, and settlement negotiations. The role requires strong technical knowledge, sound judgement, and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
